EU-Japan Science Policy Forum “Japan’s new Energy mix – creating a viable and trusted path”
In September the Japanese government announced a dramatic change to its future energy mix. Prior to the nuclear accident in Fukushima, the plan had been to increase the share of nuclear generated electricity to 50% by 2030, with the creation of 14 new nuclear power plants. This plan has now changed dramatically towards the direction of a totally new path.
Any new energy mix will be challenging and require great investments to the legal and physical infrastructure, the creation of stable and cost-conscious structures for the economy and industry, respect environmentally sustainable emission values, and most importantly require public acceptance.
This high level EU-Japan Science Policy Forum will explore what kind of independent institutions can give advice, and how scientific knowledge can be employed to support these processes, as well as what kind of experience is available to support these processes.
