At the 33rd GRIPS Forum held on 7 June, 2010, GRIPS invited Dr. Han Seung-soo, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, to deliver a lecture titled “Climate Change and Korea’s Paradigm Shift”.
Dr. Han talked about Korea’s policies and what the country is trying to do for climate change.  He also mentioned the international response to climate change based on his experience as the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Climate Change.
Dr. Han said the Republic of Korea is carrying out the Green New Deal program with the aim of promoting scientific and technological development, reducing dependence on fossil fuel, and becoming a role model of green programs. He also emphasized that it could be quite effective for Japan, China and Korea to cooperate and that green technological development will be the most important issue. Finally, he asked the audience not to forget that if the sea levels rise, all people will lose places to live.
