- Professional Career
Hiroko Ota, president of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), specializes in economic policy and public finance policy. She received her B.A. from Hitotsubashi University in Sociology in 1976. She was appointed associate professor at Saitama University in 1996, and continued in that position at GRIPS from 1997 until her appointment as professor in 2001. From 2004 to 2007 Ms. Ota served as director general of the cabinet office; as minister of state for economic and fiscal policy in the Abe cabinet; and as a member of the Fukuda cabinet. She returned to GRIPS in 2008 as professor of economics, then served as vice president from 2009 to 2011, and as senior professor from 2019 to 2022.She was appointed president of GRIPS in 2022.
