Michael Tene was inaugurated as the new Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs on 2 September 2019 where he is expected to serve a three-year term.

During the oath taking ceremony when Michael Tene took office as the new Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs on September 2, 2019.

Michael supports the Secretary-General of ASEAN in providing strategic direction and guidance on Community and Corporate Affairs, Legal Services and Agreement, and Programme Cooperation and Project Management. He also oversees the implementation of administration and general affairs, finance and budget, human resources, information technology, information resource management, public outreach, stakeholders engagements, protocol and formalities, legal affairs, and programme cooperation and project management, among others.

GRIPS Vice-President Masuyama met with Michael Tene during his recent visit to Indonesia.

Michael joined the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1994 and has 25 years of experience serving in various roles in the Ministry. Prior to assuming his current position, DSG Tene served as a Senior Official at the Directorate General for ASEAN Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Indonesia. Prior to that, he served as Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative of the Indonesian Permanent Mission to the UN, WTO and other International Organizations in Geneva, from 2015 till 2018. Between 2010 and 2015, he was the Spokesperson of MFA. Other overseas postings include the Indonesian Embassies in Washington DC (2005-2009) and in London (1997-2001).

 

Michael Tene obtained his BA from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia in 1992 and graduated from the Young Leaders Program at GRIPS with a Master in Public Administration in 2003.
