Datuk Loo Took Gee was appointed the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Malaysia in August 2010. She has almost 34 years of experience in the civil service. Prior to her appointment as the Secretary-General, she was the Deputy Secretary-General (Energy) since April 2007. 

 

In her current capacity, she is responsible for the planning and formulation of policies for the energy, green technology and water sectors of Malaysia. This includes, among others, the determination of the supply and pricing policy for fuels and electricity tariffs based on the market mechanism. Datuk Loo Took Gee was also involved in the formulation of the National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan 2009 and the drafting of the Renewable Energy Act 2011 to enhance the role of Renewable Energy towards energy security in Malaysia. 

 

In the area of Green Technology, she is actively involved in a number of initiatives that are aimed at contributing to the vision of a green economy such as the Low Carbon Cities Framework and Assessment System, Eco-labeling, Electric Vehicle etc. For the Water sector, she is leading the work to reform the water and sewerage sector towards a holistic water services industry in Malaysia.  

 

Datuk Loo Took Gee graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons.) from the University of Malaya in 1978 and obtained a Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration in 1979. She completed her Masters Degree in Policy Science at GRIPS’ predecessor, the Graduate School of Policy Science, Saitama University, in 1990. 

 

Datuk Loo Took Gee is also a board member of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA) and the Energy Commission of Malaysia. In the international arena, she has been a member of the Policy, Legal and Regulatory Steering Group of the Global CCS Institute since 2009. She has also just been appointed as the Vice-President of the Third IRENA Assembly for the period of 2013-2015 and hopes to contribute towards a more active role in scaling up Renewable Energy development, both at the national and global level.
