Tanchai02Mr. Woothisarn Tanchai was appointed as Secretary General of King Prajadhipok’s Institute in December 2014. The King Prajadhipok’s Institute or KPI is an academic organization under the jurisdiction of the president of parliament of Thailand. KPI’s mission is to support the development of democracy in Thailand. It does so by providing training and research, and by conducting activities through all sectors.

 

In addition, Mr. Tanchai is a Professor to the Department of Community Development, Faculty of Social Administration at Thammasat University. He is also serving on many policy and advisory bodies, including as an Advisor to the Constitution Drafting Committee and a Member of the National Strategy Drafting Committee on rebalancing and public sector development. Previously, he also served as a member of the Constitution Drafting Assembly in 2007, National Decentralization Committee, Social Welfare Committee, House of Representative, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Committee (BMA), Education Council Committee.

 

His research interests include Decentralization and Local Governance, Public and Social Policy, and People Participation and he has published numerous articles and reports in these fields. He has received numerous awards, including Japanese Government Scholarship (1984-1986), Honorary Certificate of the Research from National Research Council of Thailand on “The Synthesis of Policy Recommendations for Promoting Good Pharmaceutical Governance”, Outstanding Alumnus of National Institute of Development Administration, and Outstanding Alumnus of Khon Kaen University.

During the GRIPS 20th anniversary celebration in Bangkok in August 2017, Prof. Woothisan Tanchai was elected as the first Chairperson of the GRIPS Thailand Alumni Association.

 

Mr. Tanchai received a Bachelor of Science, from Khon Kaen University (1980), a Master of Public Administration from the National Institute of Development Administration (1982) and a Master of Policy Science from GRIPS’ predecessor GSPS, Saitama University (1986).
