Kuroda Haruhiko, Professor and Senior Fellow of GRIPS Alliance, receives the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure

 

Professor Kuroda Haruhiko, Senior Fellow of GRIPS Alliance, has been awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the economic development of Japan and other countries. The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure is given to persons who have been engaged in public service and who have shown outstanding achievements.

 

Professor Kuroda specializes in fiscal and monetary policy, international finance, and Asian economies. After joining the Ministry of Finance in 1967, he worked in tax administration as Director of the Co-ordination Division of the Tax Bureau and as Regional Commissioner of the Osaka Regional Taxation Bureau. He later became President of the Institute of Finance and Monetary Policy and later worked as Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs.

 

After retiring from the Ministry of Finance, Professor Kuroda served as Special Advisor to the Cabinet in 2003, President of the Asian Development Bank in 2005, and Governor of the Bank of Japan in 2013, supporting economic development not only in Japan but also in other countries. In April 2023, he became Senior Fellow of GRIPS Alliance, and in June of the same year, he became Professor of GRIPS. He has contributed to the educational and research activities of the Institute by sharing his experiences in fiscal policy, international economic policy, and monetary policy.
