This is exploratory research, designed to find the nexus between population ageing, health and valuation of the environment in Japan. In particular I aim to do two things: (1) commission an online survey aimed at older people in Japan to find the links between their age, their health and appreciation of different aspects of the environment such as a) recreational use of nature, b) preservation of ecosystems and c) adjustment to climate change. (2) I will use the results of the survey together with existing data on health and ageing in Japan (e.g. the JSTAR database) to simulate the effects of population ageing on environmental valuation for Japan.
