Prof. Emeritus Toshihiro Ihori receives the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon

At the 2025 Autumn Conferment of Decorations, Japan conferred the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon upon Prof. Emeritus Toshihiro Ihori, for his contributions to the development of research in public finance and public economics and the formulation of fiscal policy in Japan. The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon is given to persons who have been engaged in public service and who have made outstanding achievements.
Prof. Emeritus Ihori specializes in public finance and public economics. He graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1974 and received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1981. He served as Assistant Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Osaka University, and the University of Tokyo, and became Professor at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School in 1996. In 2015, he was appointed University of Tokyo Professor Emeritus. In the same year, he joined GRIPS as professor, became senior professor in 2017, and was appointed professor emeritus in April 2022.
Prof. Emeritus Ihori remains actively engaged in research and continues to mentor the next generation as a leading figure in Japan’s public finance and public economics.
