At the 2024 Spring Conferment of Decorations, Japan conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon GRIPS President Hiroko Ota, for her contribution as Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy. This order is awarded to distinguished individuals for their outstanding achievements in the service of the state.

President Ota’s specialty is economic and public finance policy. She was assigned to the Cabinet Office in 2002 after her appointment as associate professor at GRIPS in 1997; she served there as Director, Deputy-Director General, and subsequently Director-General at the Economic Research Bureau; and Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy. She subsequently returned to GRIPS as professor in 2008. Over the years, she has devoted herself to research on and education in economic and fiscal policy in Japan. Since becoming president of GRIPS in 2022, she has been promoting management with strong leadership to meet the demands of society.
