GRIPS Forum: “Antimicrobial Resistance: The Slow Pandemic and Global Call to Action ---A Decade of Progress and the Future Directions”
RSVP at the Registration Form by December 12, 2024
Abstract:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), now causes 1.27 million deaths annually. Despite gaining political attention over the past decade, its slow progression makes it less urgent than acute crises, leading to misunderstanding and low awareness. AMR has severe impacts in low-income regions, while high costs and low profitability deter pharmaceutical investment in new antibiotics. Addressing AMR requires cross-sector collaboration, and the “One Health” approach aims to improve human, animal, and environmental health. However, comprehensive solutions remain elusive. In September 2024, the UNGA adopted a “Political Declaration on AMR,” marking a significant step in global efforts. This lecture will review a decade of AMR progress, recent UNGA discussions, new antibiotics development challenges, capacity building, global collaboration, and AMR ecosystem creation.
