1976 Joined the Ministry of Construction

1979 Entered Cornell Graduate School of Sociology

1981 Graduated from Cornell Graduate School of Sociology

1983 Seconded to the Prime Minister's Office

1984 Returned to the Ministry of Construction

1988 Joined the faculty of the Graduate School for Policy Studies, Saitama University as Associate Professor

1997 Joined GRIPS as Associate Professor

1999 Earned a Ph.D in engineering from the University of Tokyo

2001 Promoted to full Professor. Became a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota and Carleton College

2010 Became a visiting scholar at Carleton College
