The eleventh Japan-Korea Future Initiative seminar was held during May 20-21, 2011 in Busan, Korea.

At this seminar, in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake & tsunami that occurred in March 2011, the discussions covered the topic “After 3.11: Korea-Japan cooperation after the 3.11 earthquake”.  Heartfelt condolences were expressed by the Korean delegation towards Japan that suffered such magnitude of disaster.  Another agenda discussed was “Beyond Controversy: Foundations of Korea-Japan’s Strategic Alliance– Textbook, Territory, and North Korea issue”.  The political situation in each country was also shared.

The day following the seminar, both Korean and Japanese members went to visit the facilities developed for the Busan International Film Festival, where they were briefed by the people in charge on how Busan city has strategically invested in creating a globally competitive Film industry, attracting companies and film to shoot, produce and edit in Busan.

Also, this year marked the 10th anniversary of the death of Mr. Lee Su Hyon who died at Takadanobaba station in Japan while trying to save a person who fell off the platform onto the rail road tracks and was killed by an incoming train.  The Korean and Japanese delegation visited Mr. Lee’s cemetery for a short ceremony, where the delegation laid flowers on Mr. Lee’s grave in the presence of his parents.
