Symposium on Science and Technology Diplomacy – A New Direction for Japan’s Diplomacy through Science and Technology -

■Abstract:

Like the development of mobile phones and the internet, new discovery about the life and the universe-, the progress of Science & Technology in recent years has changed people’s lifestyle, economy and society drastically in the world.

To make the most of the power of S&T, the international community must cooperate to utilize S&T so as to introduce effective solutions based on scientific evidence for global challenges such as environmental change, infectious diseases, terrorism, disasters, aging society, poverty and social inequality, and thereby build peaceful and sustainable society.

This year, Japan hosts the G7 Ise-Shima Summit. Also the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development is approaching at the end of August.

Can Japan lead the world with the power of Science and Technology?

The Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and prominent panelists representing various fields such as research and development, human resources development, industry and international relations will discuss this question.
