On December 10, 2018, five executive officials from the government of Kenya, including Daniel Wambura, the Principal Administrative Secretary of the Office of the Deputy President, visited GRIPS and met with Vice President Tetsushi Sonobe. Vice President Sonobe conducted case studies on industrial clusters in Nairobi from 2005 to 2009, and has visited Kenya a number of times since then; he is currently supporting GRIPS researchers’ local studies in Kenya. Reflecting the outcome of his research and his Kenya experience, Vice President Sonobe shared his insights about the framework necessary for an industrial development strategy to enable the Kenyan economy to reach its potential. During the lively discussion, members of the mission asked numerous questions and presented a request for academic assistance.
