On November 1, the Director of the Center For Asia-Latin American Studies at the University of Brasilia, Danielly Silva Ramos Becard visited GRIPS and met with GRIPS President Akihiko Tanaka.

At the start of the meeting, Ms. Becard asked for Mr. Tanaka’s opinion about how Brazil should contribute to the world, what Brazil should learn from Japan’s experience, and how best to understand Japan’s position. After noting that, in part due to its history of Japanese migration spanning 110 years, Brazil has a special relationship with Japan and is an important partner that Japan can work alongside to address issues currently faced by the world, Mr. Tanaka touched on subjects such as Brazil’s economic potential, its influence on global politics, and its role as a member of the G20. The pair then went on to exchange a range of opinions about the current state of affairs in Asia.
