At the 136th GRIPS Forum on April 17, 2017, Dr. Katsuhisa Furukawa, Former Member, DPRK Sanctions Committee’s Panel of Experts, UN Security Council, gave a lecture titled “The Politics of UN Sanctions against North Korea ~How North Korea Evaded the UN Sanctions and What Can We Do About It?”.

古川勝久氏_写真②Speakers’ Profile:

Katsuhisa Furukawa was formerly a Member of the Panel of Experts established pursuant to resolution 1874 (2009) of United Nations Security Council, from October 2011 to April 2016. Until then, he was a Fellow of the Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society (RISTEX) in Japan Science and Technology Agency, as well as a member of the Council of Asian Transnational Threat Research, and a Lecturer for the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 Committee Regional Workshop. Prior to coming to the RISTEX, he was a Senior Research Associate with the Center for Nonproliferation Studies of the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Washington, D.C. He also worked in the United States for the Council of Foreign Relations as a Research Associate. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Keio University in Tokyo, a Master’s of Public Administration from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a Ph.D. from National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo.
