Middle income trap lecture at ADB HQ
(17Feb2011) On 31 Jan 2011, Prof. Ohno was invited to Asian Development Bank in Manila as the first guest speaker of ADB's new Asian Development Policy Lecture Series. This series will explore new policy areas in which ADB can engage in middle-income member countries. The topic requested by ADB was the possibility of Vietnam's middle income trap, an issue Prof. Ohno has discussed extensively with Vietnamese policy makers in the last three years. ADB is also interested in middle income traps in Malaysia, China, Philippines, etc. In May 2011, ADB will organize a panel discussion on middle income traps in Hanoi on the occasion of ADB's Annual Meeting.

New Publication from VDF & JICA: Survey Report on IHR (Industrial Human Resources)
(20Dec2010) Quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training: Perceptions of Enterprises in Hanoi and Surrounding Provinces (issued on Nov 2010), written by Junichi Mori, Pham Trung Hoang, and Nguyen Thi Xuan Thuy.
This survey was conducted from Nov. 2008 to Feb. 2009 to obtain enterprises' needs on industrial human resource and their perceptions of the quality of TVET institutions. It was supported by domestic and international organizations including National Economics University (NEU), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Hiroshima University.

 1) Mr. Giang Thanh Long receives PhD and goes back home.
 2) Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh (PhD student, Waseda Univ.) and Mr. Pham Thai Son (Master student, APPP, Hitotsubashi Univ.) join and become our core member.

(09-2008) Ms. Le Thuy Duong (Waseda Univ.) has joined us as a volunteer since January 2008. She is currently back in Hanoi.
(06-2007) Mr. Vu Hoang Nam (GRIPS) and Mr Tran Hoai Vu (Waseda Univ.) have joined us as core-members of VDF-Tokyo since May 2007.
(03-2007) Mr. Pham Truong Hoang, our long-time core member, receives PhD and finally goes back home in Hanoi after the 7-year stay in Japan.
