• Professional Career

Professor Goto is a Professor, and Director of Science and Technology, Innovation Program of GRIPS (National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies).

He was a commissioner of Fair Trade Commission of the Government of Japan and a Professor of the University of Tokyo until his appointment as a Commissioner in February 2007. He is now an Emeritus Professor of the University of Tokyo.

His expertise covers economics of competition policy and economics of innovation. Prior to joining the University of Tokyo, Professor Goto taught at Hitotsubashi University and Seikei University. In addition, he had held visiting positions at Yale University, Oxford University, Australian National University and the OECD. He earned a Ph.D. and B.A.in Economics from Hitotsubashi University.
