Dr. Nicolaus Shombe is the Managing Director of the National Development Corporation (NDC) of Tanzania, where he provides strategic leadership to advance the country’s industrial development agenda.
His career began at the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), where he championed SME empowerment and access to finance, laying a foundation for grassroots industrialization. He went on to serve nearly 15 years at the Ministry of Finance and Planning as an Economist and Policy Analyst, contributing to key national economic strategies.
He is also a founding member of Resource Mobilization Unit established at the President’s Delivery Bureau and served as Commissioner for National Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Planning, leading the country’s long-, medium-, and short-term development plans before be appointed by Tanzanian President to serve as a Managing Director of the National Development Corporation. With over two decades of experience in public sector leadership, Dr. Shombe’s work continues to drive investment, industrial growth, and transformative economic initiatives across Tanzania.
Nicolaus holds a Ph.D. in Development Economics and two master’s degrees from GRIPS, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam.
