One-day field trip in Beijing City (26 Nov., 2014)
One-day field trip in Beijing City (Nov. 26, 2014)
In responding to the requests from participants to organize an ‘insightful’ field trip rather than an ordinary sightseeing route, the visit focused on the infrastructure and transportation system in addition to the historical and cultural spots. SPPM student Ms. LIU Tao, who studied at GRIPS as a CAMPUS Asia student last year, kindly volunteered to accompany the trip as the local conductor, while GRIPS students enthusiastically collected the information for each site and introduced it to other colleagues. This organization of the “mutually guided tour” has facilitated the trip and every participant was professionally motivated and actively involved.

Inside the Beijing South Station
The trip began from the Olympic Park while participants climbed to the top of the well-known stadium – the Bird’s Nest, followed by the tour into the most recently constructed railway station – Beijing South Station, where the conventional railways, the high-speed railways and the metro system all meet. Since most of the participants were from the Development Policy Program, seeing with their own eyes how such a mega-sized station is operated was very fascinating.
Mr. Kimura (Development Policy Program) introduced the National Theater
Mr. Yamazaki (Development Policy Program) introduced the Palace Museum
The afternoon session started from Tienanmen Square. The security checkpoints were placed not only in train stations but in every important intersection, implying the concern of terrorism to the capital city. Participants walked by China’s Congress and visited the National Theater, and finally topped off at the world heritage – the Palace Museum.
