ABOUT VDF-TOKYO

The Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) is a Vietnam-based project office of GRIPS Development Forum (GDF).  VDF was established in February 2004 by the joint research project between the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo and the National Economics University (NEU) in Hanoi.  It is one of activities of GRIPS's 21st Century Center of Excellent (COE) Program. VDF is an academic unit and not a consulting business.

The Vietnam Development Forum Tokyo (VDF-Tokyo) is a VDF office in Tokyo and a research unit of GDF. VDF-Tokyo was established in October 2004, superseding the Japan-Vietnam Economist Club (JVEC), which used to be an informal volunteer group, set up by Professor Kenichi Ohno (GRIPS), Professor Tran Van Tho (Waseda University) and Vietnamese graduate students studying in Japan.

VDF and VDF-Tokyo are administratively separated, but integrated in research content. The objectives of VDF and VDF-Tokyo are:

  • Promote high quality research on the Vietnam's development.

  • Offer a forum for information and intellectual exchange among people sincerely interested or deeply involved in Vietnam.

  • Disseminate analysis and proposals in order to improve Vietnam's policy formulation.

  • Build an open network where researchers and policy makers can meet, discuss and help each other.

  • Publicize excellent research produced by scholars and organizations outside VDF and VDF-Tokyo.

For more details, please see GDF, VDF and VDF-Tokyo websites.
