Symposium on Economic Experiments in Developing Countries (SEEDEC)

代表教員

This is a two day conference on the use of experimental economic methods to analyse issues in development economics. Such experiments are widely used by researchers in North America, Europe and Africa but are less popular to date in Japan. Locally organized conferences using the SEEDEC label have been run in several countries in recent years, including the UK, Norway, the Netherlands and the USA where the conference originated (e.g. https://cega.berkeley.edu/event/seedec-2019/ ). This is the first time the label will be attached to a conference in Japan or Asia.

This is a bigger conference than is normally supported by these grants. As well as having invited speakers, we will have parallel sessions with papers accepted on a competitive basis. Most of the participants will be self-funded: we will use the grant primarily to support the travel and accommodation of the invited speakers, but also to bring some young researchers to Japan. The overall goals are threefold: to extend the frontiers of research into development; to showcase experimental techniques for Japanese researchers and to demonstrate the importance of GRIPS in leading development and SDGs research.
