The 35th GRIPS Forum“Global Environmental Protection and Global Cooperation: the Roles of Japan and International Organizations”

Abstract

At the 35th GRIPS Forum held on 5 July 2010, GRIPS invited Dr. Ryokichi Hirono, Professor Emeritus, Seikei University/ Adjunct Professor, GRIPS, to deliver a lecture entitled “Global Environmental Protection and Global cooperation: the Roles of Japan and International Organizations.”
Dr. Hirono has been actively engaged in global cooperation for many years, working in areas of poverty reduction, human rights, global environmental protection, and nuclear non-proliferation at international organizations, universities, research institutes, and NPOs worldwide.
He spoke about what the world expects Japan to do for environmental protection and climate change, drawing from his experience in the area of international cooperation.
In his speech, he stressed that Japan can contribute to a wide range of areas of environmental protection and that exporting Japan’s advanced environmental technology is meaningful for Japan from a long-term perspective. 
He also said that for international cooperation and partnership, high level of proficiency in English is required, so students should study English very hard.
