Global COE Program International Symposium “State Building and Economic Development : Historical and Contemporary Cases”

In 2008, GRIPS was selected as the Global Center of Excellence (G-COE) for studying “The Transferability of East Asian Development Strategies and State Building”.

GRIPS has since been conducting research and education on the processes of state building and economic development in advanced and emerging countries in East Asia and how applicable these Asian experiences and lessons are to emerging and developing countries in other regions, especially Africa.

In this symposium, we would like to share the findings of this G-COE program and provide an opportunity for considering issues on state building and economic development in contemporary world with comparative and historical perspectives. The symposium features Professor James ROBINSON (Harvard University) and Professor Osamu SAITO (Hitotsubashi University) as special lectures.
