Outline:

Rapid economic growth and increasing trend of globalization of economy in Asian developingcountries/regions are creating huge transport demand, but transport infrastructures and services are grossly inadequate to respond such demand trend which may lead to unsustainable transport system. It is, therefore, quite important to understand the intercity transport nature and trend to set up appropriate policies to shape the intercity transport system to the best possible scenario.

To achieve economic growth with environmentally sustainable intercity transport system in Asian developing countries, this international collaborative research has been initiated. Cases of ten Asian countries has been examined as a part of this research.

In this symposium, final findings of each country will be presented with policy recommendations. There will be also a panel discussion in the second session of the symposium by high ranking government officials of selected countries
