GRIPS and APCSS in Hawaii co-hosted a webinar “The Future of the US-Japan Alliance in East Asia”

GRIPS and the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) in Hawaii co-hosted a webinar on Japanese foreign policy on March 25, 2021 with the generous support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

 

Professor Narushige Michishita of GRIPS gave a lecture entitled, “The Future of the US-Japan Alliance in East Asia” in which he discussed the current issues of Korean Peninsula, history of defense industry in Korea as well as National Security Policy of Japan. Dr. John Hemmings, Associate Professor at DKI APCSS, also gave a lecture on history and current situation of US-Japan Alliance, East China Sea, and Quad.

Dr. Sunmin Cho, professor at DKI APCSS moderated the webinar, with about 20 participants including faculty members, researchers and other guests.

 

During the discussion session, participants raised questions and deepen the understandings on issues such as the future of Quad and the position of Korea among defense policy. Viewers reported finding the event well organized and satisfied with the content of the presentation.
