MA members can propose presentation!
JVEC has held workshops on monthly bases since its establishment two month ago (Pls click here for our workshop schedule). If you want to make a presentation at our workshop on your own research or external papers/reports, please do not hesitate to write to JVEC with your rough presentation idea. Those who live very far from Tokyo (but in Japan), please also talk to us. We may be able to help you.

 Prof. K Ohno talks about Vietnam on Japanese TV (NHK/ETV, Sep.18, 22:50-23:00, in Japanese).  
Professor Ohno talked about the current situation and the future view of Vietnamese economy, also introduced photos of many different sceneries in Vietnam.

  GRIPS has been selected to be one of the recipients of the COE (center of excellence) research grant of the Japanese Education Ministry during 2003-07. Part of this fund will be used by GRIPS Development Forum. By early 2004, GDF will open a branch office in Hanoi to conduct a new type of policy research and networking, consistent with the JVEC principle and similar to the activities of GDF in Tokyo.

  3 April 2004 (the 9th Workshop)

Prof. Kawabata and Mr. Mishima (Tohoku Univ) presented their recent studies on steel and motorbike industries, respectively, in ASEAN. Mr. Yasukawa (Home Lawyers) joined the discussion and Prof. Lau (Reitaku Univ) took part through written comments.


21 February 2004 (the 8th Workshop)
Mr. Hisashi Nakatomi of MOFA gave a talk based on his paper on estimation of Vietnam's underground economy. The Q&A session and free discussion followed as usual.

In the 7th Workshop, Ms. Izumi Ohno and Mr. Hisaaki Mitsui presented their reports on large-scale infrastructure (esp. Hanoi-Hai Phong transport corridor) produced for the Vietnamese and Japanese governments in 2003.  An informal but serious discussion followed. Mr. Mizuno (Toyo Keizai) and Mr. Mori (Fletcher School) also joined.

"The 3rd Workshop of JVEC" was held at GRIPS where Mr Phan Minh Ngoc from Kyushu Univ. made a presentation on "Exports and Long-run Growth in Vietnam, 1976-2001".  The participants had an animated discussion. summary
