(**) Prof. Hosono (Director, JICA Research Institute, and GRIPS visiting professor) is a leading expert on Latin American development. He has worked closely with the Japanese government, taught at Tsukuba University and Kobe University, and served as the Japanese Ambassador to El Salvador from 2002 to 2007 where he initiated a comprehensive development project with La Union Port as the core infrastructure.
