Policies for Disruptive Inclusive Innovation with Global Impact to advance Sustainable Development Goals

代表教員

Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (UN 2015) requires new innovation approaches partly because dominant innovation processes exclude a considerable number of marginalized populations from benefits of new technologies in emerging economies (UNCTAD 2017). One of the new and emerging innovation approaches is “inclusive innovation” that is expected to have a significant role to play in overcoming exclusion. Based on the recent literature (Christensen et al 2015) Disruptive Inclusive innovation therefore refers to the inclusion within some aspect of innovation of groups who are currently marginalised and non-users of current products or services (Foster & Heeks 2013: 335). Over the past several years, a growing number of successful inclusive innovation cases have been recorded validating the potential of this innovation path. However, most cases are local. This project will example the possibilities of gaining broader, cross-border impact through disruptive innovations promoted by effective policy and business models, including impact in advanced economies such as Japan. The purpose of this proposed two-day conference is to provide the platform to share insights and experiences based on leading practices by convening international scholars, policymakers, and businesspersons. As a result, we will attempt to write the final report to offer STI policy recommendations to governments globally, including Japan’s concerned agencies.
