On 5 November, 2009, Vice President Dr. Li Shulei of the China Central Party School visited GRIPS as the leader of the China Youth Training Executive Delegation, consisting of 95 members. The delegation interacted with our faculty and students through lectures and group sessions during their visit.

GRIPS has conducted the “East Asian Public Sector Leadership Challenges” training program for The Sejong Institute Executives on 14 September 2009 in response to a request from Sejong Institute in Korea which has a closely relationship with GRIPS. Professor Masuyama, Professor of GRIPS and Dr. Okita, Academic Fellow and former professor of GRIPS provided lectures on the Japanese Economy and Japanese government for delegation members.

GRIPS conducted a 3-day training program entitled the Training Program on “East Asian Public Sector Leadership Challenges” for Thai Executives (EAPSLC) from September 7-9 2009. The program was developed in response to a request from the Office of the Civil Service Committee in Thailand. GRIPS welcomed 19 promising government officials, selected by the Thai government currently in manager or assistant manager positions, or with a few years of government experience.

GRIPS has conducted a 19-day "Thai Senior Executive Development Program (SEDP)" from July 6 - July 24, 2009 in response to the request by Office of the Civil Service Committee(OCSC) in Thailand. In this fifth year of the program, GRIPS welcomed one Provincial Governor and six Provincial Vice Governors of Thailand as participants. Deputy Secretary General of OCSC also joined in this program this year.

On 17 June 2009, a Memorandum of Understanding on academic exchange and cooperation was concluded between GRIPS and the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCPS). A six-member delegation led by Hao Shijin, academic dean of CCPS, came to GRIPS to attend the signing ceremony. The MOU covers the next three years, during which time academic exchange between the two institutions will be deepened through various means such as symposia and short-term training.

Dr. Han Seung Soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea visited GRIPS on 22nd May, 2009, to meet with President Hatta, former President and current Special Councilor Yoshimura and other professors. Prime Minister Han has pursued his research at GRIPS during two years from July, 2004 to June, 2006 as a senior fellow.

Mr. Gyeltshen, an alumnus of GRIPS (Public Finance Program 2006–2007), received an award for his master's thesis, which was selected as one of the best papers in the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) Scaling-Up Program Paper Competition.
