Regarding materials GRIPS does not hold or subscribe to, you can access the resources in other libraries as a visiting library user or through Inter-Library Loan Service as explained below.

Visiting to Other University Libraries
The visitor use policy depends on each library’s regulations.
Please ask to GRIPS library staff.
National Universities in Japan
GRIPS students and faculty are qualified to use the libraries of national universities in Japan.
You will need to show your GRIPS ID Card at these libraries.
Contacting the university in advance to check the availability of the items you need is recommended.
Please consult with GRIPS library staff before you visit.
Private Universities or Other Institutions
To use private universities or other institutions, you must make contact in advance.
Most private institutions will require a letter of introduction from GRIPS.
Please consult with GRIPS library staff.
Using The United Nations University Library
GRIPS members become available to borrow a book at the United Nations University Library providing you visit directly.
The library user card is required, please come to the GRIPS library counter.
Online journals and databases which are not included GRIPS collection
(ex.ProQuest, JSTOR, or so on) are also available.
Please ask the GRIPS library counter for more information.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Obtaining Copies of Materials from Other University Libraries
Via Inter-Library Loan Service, you can obtain copies of documents from other university libraries by mail.
Materials will usually arrive within a week after ordering.
For materials to be used for research purposes only, students are exempt from paying fees
to obtain materials via inter-library loan service.
* Fees will be charged for requesting inter-library loans in these cases only:1. when requesting the same materials a second (third, fourth, etc) time;
2. when requesting express delivery of materials (the charges will include normal delivery fees and express delivery fees);
3. when requesting materials that can be found in GRIPSf library or that can be accessed for free on the Internet.G

Loan from Other University Libraries
Via Inter-Library Loan Service, you can borrow books by mail from other university libraries.
Loans will usually arrive within a week after ordering.
Loan policy depends on each university’s regulations.
Periodicals, microforms and valuable books generally cannot be borrowed.
For materials to be used for research purposes only, students are exempt from paying fees
to obtain materials via inter-library loan service.
