JIMS is one of the best seminars I’ve ever attended. It’s a kind of a short, but informative and effective seminar. With a less tecnical and more on policy debates, I think this fits very well with policy makers who want to brush up their views on current situation of the world economy.

JIMS-2013 was an excellent event to focus on the macroeconomic issues and challenges for Asia. The five day long seminar covered a wide range of substantial and cross-cutting issues related to Asia’s macro economy. There were enough room for discussion and experience sharing. It was obviously a unique gathering for the 30 participants from 19 countries including one from Japan. The senior officials exchanged their views and experiences on different issues. The theme entitled “Achieving Sustainable and Balanced Growth in Asia,” was rightly chosen and sessions under the theme had been orderly planned and presented very systematically. The speakers were found very knowledgeable and sincere in handling the queries and questions raised by the participants.

The following sessions were very interesting and interactive:

(i) The Global Economic Outlook and Its Implications for Asia

(ii) Combining Macro prudential Measures with Monetary Policies to Promote Financial Stability

(iii) Aging of the Population and Social Policies in Japan & East Asia

(iv) Surging Resource Prices and Inflation in Emerging Asia

The topics of the seminar were very interesting but much emphasis had been given on East Asia. The macroeconomic issues and challenges of South and South-East Asia had not been properly taken into account. However, the organization of the seminar in GRIPS was very professional and overall it was a successful seminar.

The seminar covered topics that were of current concern . The distinguished panel of speakers showed their mastery o,f and wealth of experience on, the areas that each handled. Their insights and analysis were very incisive and frank, and gave due consideration to practicality as well as influence of culture on matters of strategy to address issues and implementation of necessary measures.

The broad spectrum of knowledge and areas of responsibility of the participants provided an enriching and interesting flavor to discussions.

The seminar likewise provided a good opportunity to meet and inter act with peers from central banks, ministries of finance and other branches of government.

The arrangements for the affair by GRIPS officers and staff were impeccable. The attention to detail, comfort and needs of the seminar and the participants were truly commendable. The venue was similarly excellent.

The hospitality and warmth of the hosts made our JIMS experience truly memorable.

The one thing that impressed me most about JIMS was the way it was conducted, which has made it such an interesting and enlightening seminar. The organiser has created a pleasant and yet intellectually stimulating atmosphere for participants. Topics for discussion were also relevant to the current economic scenario. As such, the knowledge, experience and opinions were freely shared and discussed in a spirit of togetherness coming from one region called Asia. In the end, everybody graduated from the seminar feeling contented after gaining invaluable lessons and friendships to bring home. Amazing how these were developed only in a matter of one week!

Seminar conducted by GRIPS in February is far better in terms of content where major current macroeconomic issues were covered. The speakers were highly experienced professional and participants were interactive. The venue as well as the organization team were no doubt exceptionally excellent. My heartfelt thank to GRIPS for giving me the opportunity to learn and making networking.
