GRIPS Development Forum > Diversifying PRSP > ch5. Japanese Development Cooperation in Vietnam
Japan has been making an active contribution to the partnership efforts in Vietnam, participating in more than twenty task forces established under the partnership platform. As the Table below indicates, Japan has assumed a leading role in the Transport Sector Working Group, SME Promotion, Private Sector Forum, and Ho Chi Minh City ODA Partnership. Japan has also participated in other groups where it has comparative advantages in assistance such as Urban Forum ("Broad Development Issues"); SOE Reform & Equitization, Banking Reform, Trade Policy, Public Financial Management ("Economic Management"); and Forestry Sector Support Program, Partnership to Support the Poorest Communes, Natural Disaster Mitigation, Water Resources ("Rural and Regional Development").
Moreover, regarding CPRGS, Japan's involvement in the Poverty Working Group/Poverty Task Force is notable. As a core member of this group, Japan supported CPRGS preparation, particularly in both analytical work and regional consultation. For example, Japan played a leading role in assisting the development of localized, monitoring indicators for basic infrastructure one of the eight topics for pro-poor support (i.e., poverty and hunger, social protection, basic education, health and inequalities, environmental sustainability, ethnic minority, basic infrastructure, governance) as part of the donor-coordinated effort to establish "Vietnam Development Targets (VDTs)."
