education and career:

Graduated from the Faculty of Science, University of Tokyo, in 1953. After serving as an Associate Professor at Keio University, he joined the Graduate School of Policy Science at Saitama University in 1977. Currently he is a Professor at GRIPS. He is an Honorary Member of the Operations Research Society of Japan.


current research interests:

Theory and applications of optimisations, evaluation methods for managerial and technical efficiency of performances, and decision-making methods. He is also conducting cooperative studies on the above subjects with the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications Policy and the National Land Agency. In addition, he is a member of the Editorial Boards of Omega, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences (International Journal of Public Sector Decision Making), and Encyclopedia of Operations Research and Management Science.
