Academic Writing Center
The Academic Writing Center (AWC) complements GRIPS' formal programs of study with instruction in fundamental areas of academic English expression. Its primary goal is to build practical skills in clear and logical writing. Through workshops and individualized tutorials, the AWC helps students formulate paper topics and research questions, borrow and integrate others' ideas appropriately, evaluate and utilize online resources, and use general conventions of academic and professional writing. The AWC also offers instruction in presentation skills and grammar; conducts classes in listening comprehension and English discussion; and maintains a small lending library of fiction, reference, and instructional volumes. Students are welcome to seek assistance at any stage of the writing process or with any general academic question.
