CAMPUS Asia 3rd PhD Joint Seminar Report (16-19 Mar, 2014)
The GRIPS-KDIS PhD Joint Seminar was held at KDIS School (KDIS) in Seoul, Korea from March 16th to 19th, 2014.
On 17th, GRIPS Students participated in the regular KDIS class “Korean Economic Development” lectured by Prof. Jungho Yoo. The lecture was mainly about Korea’s policy measures for export promotion in the mid-1960s e.g. repayment guarantee of foreign loans as a factor of Korea’s Rapid Export Expansion during the period of rapid economic growth.
In the afternoon, students took a guided tour to National Assembly of Korea located in Yeouido and learned about Korean parliamentary system and political history.

The morning session on the 18th was a special lecture by former Minister of Education, Science and Technology and KDIS Professor Ju-ho Lee entitled “Positive Changes in Education, Science, and Technology Policies of Korea”. During the discussion session, a number of ideas and opinions were shared by participants reflecting the situations and challenges of educational system in their countries.
PhD Joint Seminar took place during the afternoon, moderated by KDIS Professor Jong-Il You. Three GRIPS PhD students and two KDIS PhD students presented their research work and received some valuable feedback and comments from the audience.

The trip concluded with the visit to War Memorial of Korea and Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS, an international organization with a vision to promote peace and common prosperity among the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan) headquarter in Seoul.
In there visit to the TCS, the group was greeted by Secretary General Mr. Iwatani and received briefing by the staff on an overview of the organization and its roles and activities. Participants expressed their expectations for TCS in coordinating and facilitating future-oriented partner relationship among the three countries.
