On Monday, August 12, students participated in a field trip to Nippon Koei R&D Center in Tsukuba organized by GRIPS summer program along with GRIPS regular students. The trip included greetings and introductions by Deputy Director Dr.Takahashi, lectures by General Manager Mr. Nakamura and other researchers, and a guided tour to the laboratories. Participants said, “It was very interesting to see how aware of and prepared for disaster management Japan is from a scientific and engineering perspective.”

For the second field trip of the program, the group visited Bank of Japan Main Office in Chuo-ku, Tokyo in early morning of August 19. After watching the introductory video of the Bank of Japan, the participants toured inside the premises including the vault and learned about the history.  The Bank also provided a lecture followed by a Q&A session on BOJ’s four principal missions which covered major developments in the central bank’s functions after the global financial crisis.
